Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that a total of 17,973,101 passengers were transported at airports serving throughout Türkiye in April, noting, "In April 2024, compared to the same month of 2023, there was a 53.7% increase in total passenger traffic. In the first four months of this year, a total of 653,472 aircraft movements were recorded, while the total number of passengers reached 61,879,094." Minister Uraloğlu also reported that the cargo and freight volume transported at airports in the first four months of 2024 reached a total of 1,373,395 tons, including 256,240 tons on domestic flights and 1,117,156 tons on international flights.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced the aircraft, passenger, and cargo statistics for April 2024 by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ). Minister Uraloğlu stated that the number of aircraft taking off and landing at airports in April reached 74,591 on domestic routes and 63,727 on international routes, with a total aircraft traffic of 178,614 including transit flights. Uraloğlu noted that in April, compared to the same month of 2023, there was a 28.0% increase in total aircraft traffic. Minister Uraloğlu also stated that in April, the domestic passenger traffic at airports throughout Türkiye reached 8,244,590, and international passenger traffic reached 9,715,111, with a total of 17,973,101 passengers, including direct transit passengers. He emphasized that the total passenger traffic in April 2024 increased by 53.7% compared to the same month of 2023, with 52.9% on domestic routes and 55.1% on international routes, setting a new record. Airport cargo traffic reached 372,430 tons in April, with 72,269 tons on domestic routes and 300,161 tons on international routes.
Passenger Traffic Approaching 62 million in Four Months
Minister Uraloğlu stated that in the first four months of 2024, the number of aircraft taking off and landing at airports reached 270,495 on domestic routes and 221,040 on international routes, with a total of 653,472 including transit flights. He said that compared to the same period of 2023, there was a 6.4% increase in domestic aircraft traffic and a 17.2% increase in international aircraft traffic, resulting in a 13.4% increase in total aircraft traffic, including transit flights. Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that during this period, airports throughout Türkiye served a total of 61,879,094 passengers, including 28,950,375 domestic passengers and 32,868,310 international passengers, including direct transit passengers. He noted that the passenger traffic in April 2024 increased by 23.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, with 23.1% on domestic routes and 24.4% on international routes. Uraloğlu also reported that the cargo and freight volume transported at airports during this period reached a total of 1,373,395 tons, including 256,240 tons on domestic routes and 1,117,156 tons on international routes.
Passenger Numbers Increased by 48% at Istanbul Airport
Minister Uraloğlu stated that in April, the aircraft traffic at Istanbul Airport reached 10,180 on domestic routes and 32,700 on international routes, with a combined total of 42,880. He announced that a total of 6,591,527 passengers were served at this airport, including 1,499,004 on domestic flights and 5,092,523 on international flights. Uraloğlu noted that in April, compared to the same month of 2023, there was a 34% increase in total aircraft traffic, with a 38% increase in domestic aircraft traffic and a 51% increase in international aircraft traffic. He said that the passenger traffic in April increased by 48% compared to the same month of 2023, with a 38% increase in domestic passenger traffic and a 51% increase in international passenger traffic.
Istanbul Airport Served 24.2 million Passengers in Four Months
Minister Uraloğlu reported that in the first four months of 2024, Istanbul Airport served a total of 24,263,498 passengers, including 5,057,817 on domestic flights and 19,205,681 on international flights. He stated that compared to the same period of 2023, there was a 12% increase in total aircraft traffic, with a 2% increase in domestic aircraft traffic and a 15% increase in international aircraft traffic. Uraloğlu emphasized that the passenger traffic in April 2024 increased by 17% compared to the same period of 2023, with a 14% increase in domestic passenger traffic and an 18% increase in international passenger traffic.
Record 59% Increase in Sabiha Gökçen Airport
Minister Uraloğlu announced that in April, Sabiha Gökçen Airport had a total aircraft traffic of 19,815, including 9,571 on domestic routes and 10,244 on international routes. He stated that a total of 3,336,186 passengers were served at this airport, including 1,655,799 on domestic flights and 1,680,387 on international flights. Uraloğlu reported that in April, compared to the same month of 2023, there was a 30% increase in total aircraft traffic, with a 55% increase in domestic aircraft traffic and a 63% increase in international aircraft traffic. He further noted that the passenger traffic in April increased by 59% compared to the same month of 2023, with a 55% increase in domestic passenger traffic and a 63% increase in international passenger traffic. Uraloğlu also highlighted that there were 1,877 aircraft movements at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, where general aviation activities continued during this period.
